I am a master student in the Dual Masters in Brain and Mind Sciences and I am doing my second master research project in the SAN team at the ICM under the supervision of Stéphanie Dubal.
My current research project investigates the effect of emotion on early visual processing. It has been shown at a behavioural level as well as in neuroimaging studies, that emotionally laden stimuli enhance perception with faster reaction times, enhance neural activation in the visual cortex and enhance early and late EEG components in emotional compared to neutral stimuli. These modulations of visual perception by emotionally laden stimuli are thought to be mediated by a subcortical pathway involving limbic structures, and have been demonstrated to be modulated by bottom-up processes. In this project, we would like to investigate whether higher order processes can also modulate early visual processing. To do so, we are using a tool that involves both emotional and cognitive processes: Humour.
